Questions
What almost everyone asks
Do you take my insurance?
We take some commercial PPO plans; we do not take Medicare or Medicaid. If your plan is not one of them, you can pay yourself and we give you an itemized receipt in case your plan reimburses. Before the first session we check your benefits.
What is a superbill and how do I use it?
It is a monthly receipt with the dates, the kind of session and a diagnosis code. You send it to your plan, which decides whether to reimburse anything. Ask your plan before you start, because reimbursement depends on your plan.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate in writing before care starts. We give you one before the first session. If your final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.
How do fees work, and can I use an HSA or FSA card?
The fee depends on the kind of session and its length, and we give it to you in writing before you start. You pay at the end of each session, by card; we do accept HSA and FSA cards. A limited number of reduced-fee spots are open.
Who has to come to the first session?
Whoever you like. One person can come, a couple or several generations. If someone in the family prefers not to come, you can start without them and decide later. The Deciding together page explains how we do it.
What happens in the first session?
It lasts 60 minutes. Your therapist explains how they work, the limits of confidentiality and the possible risks and benefits of therapy, and listens. At the end, the two of you decide whether to continue.
How often do I come, and how long is a session?
An individual session lasts 50 minutes and a couple or family session, 80. Your therapist sets the pace with you; we do not promise a number of sessions.
Are you licensed where I live?
Our licenses are from Florida. By video we see people who are in Florida during the session. If you are in another state, we help you find someone licensed there.
What do I do in a crisis?
Call or text 988, any time; for Spanish, press 2. In an emergency, call 911. This site and our messages are not monitored around the clock.
What is confidential and what are the limits?
What you say stays in the session. The law sets limits: if there is a serious risk that someone will harm themselves or someone else, or if abuse of a child or an older person is suspected, your therapist may have to report it. In couple or family therapy, we explain before we begin what is kept and what is shared among the people in the room.
Can you see my teenager, and how does consent work?
To see someone under 18 we ask for the consent of a parent or legal guardian, and family therapy always includes one of them. Your therapist explains in writing how privacy works with minors before you start.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for 24 hours' notice to change or cancel an appointment. If you need to change it with less notice, write or call us and we will work something out.
