Your first session

Before, during and after

Sixty minutes, without hurry, with whoever you decided to bring.

  • Before

We confirm the time by the means you prefer and send a link to the patient portal with the forms. If you come as a family, we tell your therapist who is coming.

  • During

Your therapist explains how they work, the limits of confidentiality and the possible risks and benefits of therapy, and listens. You can speak in Spanish, English or both.

  • After

At the end, everyone decides whether to continue and at what pace. You receive the fee in writing and, if you pay without insurance, the Good Faith Estimate.

At the office or by video

A room with a big table

The room has a round table, armchairs for four or five people and water or tea. If you prefer video, your therapist sends you the link; you need to be in Florida during the session.

  • Up to five people in the room

  • Street and building parking

  • Video, if you are in Florida

Two adults in armchairs talking across a round wooden table in a green-walled room

Three questions

Who has to come to the first session?

Whoever you like. One person can come, a couple or several generations. If someone in the family prefers not to come, you can start without them and decide later. The Deciding together page explains how we do it.

What happens in the first session?

It lasts 60 minutes. Your therapist explains how they work, the limits of confidentiality and the possible risks and benefits of therapy, and listens. At the end, the two of you decide whether to continue.

What do I do in a crisis?

Call or text 988, any time; for Spanish, press 2. In an emergency, call 911. This site and our messages are not monitored around the clock.
